يبدو أن شركة ميكروسوفت قريبة للغاية من اصدار نظام التشغيل التالي لويندوز فيستا بعد اصدار النسخة قبل النهائية من ويندوز 7.0 .
النسخ الحالية شبيهة بشكل كبير من ويندوز فيستا مع اجراء بعض التسحينات على الواجهة. على سبيل موقع الادوات (الساعة و الرزنامة و غيرها من التطبيقات) غير كقصور على شريط الادوات بل ويمتد على كل سطح المكتب.
بالاضافة الى ما ذكر النسخة الجديدة تحتوي على نسخ مطورة من برنامجي WordPad و Paint مع انترنت اكسبلورر 8.0 و ويندوز كيديا بلاير 12 .
